LocalArchitect guarantee

LocalArchitect guarantee that where possible, we will utilise local building materials, builders, tradespeople, craftsmen and furniture makers with a passion for their local built environment. The best contribution you can make to a community’s economic, social and environmental sustainability is to use local materials, skills and knowledge. LocalArchitect focus

Thoughtful design should always include delivering value for money and practicality in buildings. Investment in good architectural services is a highly-effective long-term asset strategy. Buildings, places and spaces are not only critical in helping form a sense of community and belonging, but they also demand ongoing whole-life energy and maintenance input far beyond their initial investment.  Our buildings are therefore designed to meet not only the needs of their occupants but also their wider ownership, maintenance and management structures.

  • Providing contemporary design that utilises local building traditions and passive cooling and heating.
  • Knowledge responding to the climate and environment.
  • People! – occupants and stakeholders with accessibility and inclusion for all.
  • Minimisation of ongoing power, water, gas etc. consumption.
  • High insulation values and natural thermal control and ventilation.
  • Careful building siting, orientation, sun-shading.
  • Natural light, natural materials and textures that are robust and low-maintenance.
  • Flexible spaces that can join or reconfigure to suit changing requirements.
  • Simple and pragmatic storage and utilities.
  • A sense of welcome and communality, and of connection between in- and outdoors.
  • Sheltered, shaded areas as outdoor rooms (eg verandahs, courtyards).
